We’ve had an exciting week here at 90+ Cellars. A few months ago we were notified that Latitude Beverage Company — better known to most of you as Kevin, Brett, and the rest of us behind the 90+ Cellars brand — earned a spot on this year’s Inc 500|5000 list of the fastest growing privately held companies in the United States. After weeks of waiting with bated breath for our official ranking on this list of outstanding entrepreneurs, we finally got to see the list on Tuesday. First reaction? At number 551 we’re in the top 15% of the list and we did it all by helping savvy wine lovers everywhere drink fine wine for less…that’s definitely toast-worthy. We’re incredibly thankful for our customers who love to save on fine wine and then share it with their friends. You guys are the reason we’re on the list, and we couldn’t have done it without you.
I don’t like to bore you with numbers here on this blog, but here are a couple stats from the list that are worth sharing. Plus, if you think about it in terms of wine (and preferably with a glass of wine in hand) it’s pretty interesting.
- We grew 678% in the past 3 years. Did twice as many people buy 90+ Cellars, or did some of you just drink double the wine? Our guess is all of the above, so as long as you keep sipping and sharing, we’ll keep impressing you with our great wine finds.
- Ranked #20 out of the 184 companies on the list from our home base of Boston, MA. In a city where all things tech, finance, and education reign supreme, wine may seem like the Beantown’s black sheep. But if you think about it, we use tech to streamline our business model, help you save money, and teach you that you don’t have to spend a ton to drink great wine. See? Not so weird after all.
- Ranked #13 in Food & Beverage Industry. That’s in the whole country, may we add! In this category, we were in the company of several innovative, sustainable food and beverage products, and we hope that's a trend that's here to stay. That said, we’re glad Kevin didn’t decide to jump on the organic baby food bandwagon (one of the hottest things on the list). Would we have grown even more? But our office tastings would be a lot less fun.
- Number 1 in the Wine, Beer, and Spirits Industry. Under the umbrella of Food & Beverage, you’ve got baby food, burgers, breweries, and everything in between. There are a couple awesome and innovative wine industry folks in there, too, and we’re growing the fastest of them all.
One thing’s for sure: we’ve come a long way since Kevin was cold calling wineries in a tiny basement office. The best part is, there’s no special formula or sophistacted algorithm for growth here, we're just dedicated people searching for top-notch wine and selling it to you for the best price possible.
And here’s just one more excuse to add to your long list of reasons to drink wine: “I’m helping 90+ Cellars get to #1 next year!”
