Muscadet Sèvre et Maine is one of the freshest and most thirst-quenching wines on earth. Perfectly paired with oysters and warm, summer days, this racy Loire Valley white is beautifully citrus-forward with a hint of salinity from its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean.
Known also as Melon de Bourgogne or Melon Blanc, Muscadet grows on hillsides between the rivers Sèvre and Maine, tributaries of France’s Loire River. Here a mix of rocky and sandy soils on sloping vineyards provide excellent drainage and heat retention in a region known for its cool and damp climate. During winemaking, the juice from the grapes is separated after pressing, fermented, and then left to rest with the lees, which lends a delicate creaminess to this lively white wine.
