When it comes to “classic” wines, it doesn’t get much more classic than
Bordeaux, France. Bordeaux’s roots in wine go back thousands of years.
This Bordeaux is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Merlot grows on clay dominant soils on the right bank of the estuary, and the Cabernet Sauvignon on gravelly soils on the left bank. The typical blend is 60-75% Merlot and 40-25% Cabernet Sauvignon. The percentage varies based on the vintage.
Aromas of blackcurrants and cherries give way to toasty, smoky layers that trail into the wine’s pleasantly long finish. Pair this with roast lamb with rosemary and garlic, or a spread of aged cheeses.
