Pouilly-Fumé is notably one of France’s most famous white wines (and white wine regions). On the right bank of the Loire River, just across the river from Sancerre, Sauvignon Blanc is in its purest form, aromatic and lively with a spark of minerality. Grown on limestone and clay soils, the Sauvignon Blanc of Pouilly-Fumé has a reputation for offering gunflint or smoky notes. In fact, the French word “fumé” translates to “smoke.”
After harvest, the grape bunches are delicately pressed, and allowed to settle before a natural fermentation. The wine is then left to mature on the lees for several months, producing a beautiful perfume and a silky texture.
