DESCRIPTION
The inconspicuous Aligoté is a refreshing gem of a white wine grown in the
rolling hills of Burgundy. Known for its crisp and dry-but-fruity profile, this
unique white grape grows on the tops and bottoms of Burgundy’s sloping
vineyards. The wines are terroir-driven with the lively acidity of Chablis.
The Aligoté grape has been grown in Burgundy for centuries. Before
phylloxera, in the 1800s, Aligoté was often intermingled with Chardonnay
in the best vineyards. When growers replanted, they mostly replaced
Aligoté vines with Chardonnay.
While Aligoté is still a relatively unknown varietal of Burgundy, it has gained
momentum in recent years as sommeliers, in-the-know consumers and
well-known publications like Wine Enthusiast and The New York Times have
started to talk about it as a great, value-driven wine.
TASTING NOTES
Aromas of stone fruits like nectarine and peach are followed by fresh herbs on the nose. On the palate this wine has a beautiful minerality and acidity that leaves your mouth watering for more. With lean, mineral-driven flavors and bright acidity, Aligoté pairs exceptionally well with shellfish, fish dishes and cow’s milk cheeses.
