The Haut-Medoc, on Bordeaux's Left Bank, is home to four very famous appellations: Margaux, Pauillac, Saint-Estephe and Saint-Julien. Some of the most famous Châteaus of Bordeaux are in this region. The vineyard that produces this wine is nestled in between Margaux and Saint-Julien, overlooking the Garonne River.
This bold wine is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grown on gravelly soils from the river. The deep gravel enables an optimum drainage and preserves the vines from the hot summer sun, while the Garonne River creates a micro-climate limiting temperature variations so the berries can grow steadily and achieve maximum ripeness. Nearly a quarter of this wine is aged in new French oak barrels for a year.
