    Wheel Horse Rye is a sour mash whiskey, distilled and matured at O.Z. Tyler Distillery in Owensboro, KY. We use a 95% rye (5% malted barley) mash, and distill exclusively in copper stills. Maturation is done in 53-gallon, charred American oak barrels for 2-3 years. Our barrels age in rick houses that have been on the property for up to 90 years. We do not chill-filter our whiskey. We do not adulterate our whiskey in any way.

    Batch 1 of Wheel Horse Rye was released in December 2019 and was bottled at 101 proof.

    More About O.Z. Tyler While the town of Owensboro, KY may not be as well-known as Bardstown or Louisville, it has a history of producing whiskey that dates back to the early 1800s. Similarly, the O.Z. Tyler Distillery (as it is now known) has existed there since 1885, and owns Kentucky Distilling Permit 10. Throughout its history, the distillery (in its various forms) has produced well-known whiskeys such as Ezra Brooks, Mellow Corn and Old Medley.

    After being shut down for several decades, the distillery was purchased in 2014, fully restored and re-named O.Z. Tyler. Ron Call, a veteran Master Distiller with 40 years of experience at Jim Beam and Florida Caribbean Distillers, was brought in to facilitate the next evolution of the distilling operation. In 2016, the Master Distiller title was given to Ron’s son, Jacob, a seventh generation Kentuckian and a third-generation distiller. Everything was set up to create the next great Kentucky whiskey.
