DESCRIPTION

While Argentina may be best known for its Malbec, the country produces a diversity of wines. And Lot 53 is the perfect introduction to the power, potential and crowd-pleasing nature of Argentine Cabernet.

This wine is made by a well-regarded family-owned winery in Mendoza. The grape vines are located more than 800 meters above sea level and are irrigated from the mineral rich water from the Andes mountains. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and then aged for 6 months in a blend of new and recently used French oak.

TASTING NOTES

A melody of black currants and red cherries rises above a backdrop of leather and toast. On the palate, you'll taste juicy, dark berry fruit along with a trickle of sweet spice and savory plums. Serve with grilled rib eye, portabella mushrooms and hearty meat dishes.

Should Mature Nicely

I was a bit disappointed when I received the case of Lot 53 and found it was the 2014 release rather than the 2009 that was shown on the website. On tasting, the 2014 has quite good potential - three stars given as it is today. It is fairly good to drink now but lacks the depth that maturity brings. I plan to keep it aging for a few years with high expectations of having a very good wine at an excellent price just with delayed gratification.

To each their own

I wouldn't call this a "bad" wine, just not really my favorite. Probably just a personal taste issue. I bought a variety of 12 bottles and this was included, just didn't really grab me personally." wouldn't call this a "bad" wine, just not really my favorite. Probably just a personal taste issue.
