One can wind down from a long day in many different ways. A glass of wine…a yoga session…but did you know the two can pair together? Yoga instructor and wine enthusiast Sarajean Rudman is here to teach us how to do just that.
“Tree” Pose, or vrksasana in Sanskrit is a balancing pose, essential to any yoga practice. Chardonnay is also an essential, that requires careful balance to achieve greatness. That makes “tree” the perfect asana to compliment Lot 88 Chardonnay from Russian River Valley. Aromas and flavors of citrus and orchard fruits are balanced perfectly with another kind of “tree”… the French oak barrels that the Chardonnay is aged in for 6 months or more.
“Triangle” Pose, or trikonasana in Sanskrit is an expansive pose that opens the heart-space wide in an instant. That makes it the perfect yoga partner to Lot 50 Prosecco. An instant is all it takes for this snappy sparkler to bubble over the top of glasses, opening hearts and creating smiles for everyone. With its aromas of ginger and lilac, and its dry citrus notes, this is a wine that will open your heart for celebration.
The virabhadrasana series means “Warrior” Pose series, and consists of three main variations, all reflecting the fierceness of a warrior. But Warrior three variation is the fiercest of the fierce, a balancing act that requires strength, focus and savvy. Could there be a better compliment to Lot 2 Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand? With a perfect balance of jazzy fruit and snappy acidity, this is a fierce and focused wine for a wine-drinker who can rise to the occasion!
Whereas Warrior’s third incarnation is a fierce variation of the virabhadrasana series, the reverse variation of Warrior, viparita virabhadrasana, or “Proud Warrior” is a pose that keeps all of the strength and boldness, but has a more grounding, rooting element. 90+ Cellars should be proud of their Lot 23 Old Vine Malbec; it is all about roots, and the taste is all about boldness. With rich, bold flavors of blackberry and plum that only the deep roots of 100+ year-old vines can express, the wine, like the pose, can help you come back to Earth, any time you need it.
