We love starting a fresh year with a look back at the most popular wines of the prior year. After another year of uncertainty in 2021, our Top 10 list tells us that there was comfort in the familiar, as our #1 and #2 wines battled for the top spot for the third year in a row. And with some newcomers to the list, it's great to see that you're exploring the world of wine with us and discovering new favorites, as well.
So without further ado, here are our Top 10 Wines of 2021!
#1 Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough, New Zealand - Lot 2
Lot 2 was one of our very first wines, and it remains one of our most popular. This crisp, classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc continues to be a crowd-pleaser, earning the top spot for the second year in a row!
#2 Prosecco, Italy - Lot 50
No wonder our flagship Prosecco is a forever favorite: this bubbly is delicious (92-point rating!), light (94 calories per serving!), and super affordable (~$10!). Clearly, many of you chose to #BringtheBubbly in 2021!
#3 Rosé Languedoc, France - Lot 33
It looks like everyone was drinking pink last year, since Lot 33 hopped up a few spots from 2020. If you like dry-yet fruity rosé wines that are French in style, easy-drinking and perfect for every occasion, you're going to love this rosé.
#4 Prosecco Rosé, Italy - Lot 197
The launch of Lot 197 was one of our highlights of 2021, and 90+ Cellars was among the first to launch a wine in the newly designated "Prosecco Rosé" category. This pale pink sparkler was even dubbed one of the "Best Inexpensive Rosés to Sip this Summer" by Oprah Daily!
#5 Old Vine Malbec, Argentina - Lot 23
Lot 23 Malbec is no stranger to our Top 10 list. It's the perfect everyday red. Made from grapes grown on old vines at the foothills of Argentina's majestic Andes Mountains, we're not surprised to see it as our top red wine two years running.
#6 French Fusion, Languedoc, France - Lot 21
Lot 21 is a particularly perfect companion on these colder days because this Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre blend is intensely flavorful, exhibiting both power in its full-bodied structure and finesse in its savory texture.
#7 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, California - Lot 75
Our longtime most popular Reserve wine, Lot 75 retails for under $20 and comes from one of the Russian River Valley's top producers. We also love that this wine is made using sustainably farmed grapes.
#8 Sancerre, France - Lot 126
Lot 126 had a big year. Not only did it make its debut on this list, it was also named one of the best wines of 2021 by the Vivino community! This delightfully balanced and crisp white wine has become one of our most sought-after wines, so if you haven't tried it yet, we suggest getting your hands on a few bottles before it's gone.
#9 Chardonnay, Russian River Valley, California - Lot 130
We love that this California Chardonnay has just the right amount of oak - and clearly you all do, too! Created by the same famed Russian River Valley producer as Lot 75 Pinot Noir (#7), we recommend adding this 92-point rated Chardonnay to the rotation if you haven't already!
#10 Pinot Noir, California - Lot 179
We're rounding out the Top 10 with this easy-drinking, everyday California Pinot Noir. We love this wine for its fresh hints of blueberries, raspberries, flowers, and spice.
