We’re walking into a new decade with a new wine in hand. 2019 marks ten years of 90+ Cellars, and to commemorate this milestone, we’re releasing Lot 10 Cabernet Sauvignon, our first wine from Napa Valley’s renowned Stags Leap District.
You may be wondering why we’re just now releasing Lot 10, since our Lot number count is almost up to 200. Well, here’s the story!
Lot 10 was always destined to be a Cabernet, but the originally planned Lot 10 Cabernet was from South Africa. Long story short, the South Africa deal fell through last minute, and when it did, we had already moved on to succeeding lots. Kevin (90+ Cellars’ founder) made the decision not to backtrack, so Lot number 10 remained the only unused Lot number in our growing portfolio.
With our 10th anniversary approaching, we set out with the lofty goal of finding a wine worthy of filling the Lot 10 spot. Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District had been on our radar since day one, but because of the AVA’s small size and limited output, we hadn’t had an opportunity to bring in a wine from this region that met our standards for both quality and value. But that changed when our Wine Director, Brett, came upon an amazing wine earlier this year.
About the Wine
Stags Leap District was established as Napa’s original AVA, but its history goes far beyond its official designation. The 1976 Judgment of Paris became international news when a Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon overthrew many revered French Bordeaux wines to take the top red wine spot.
Stags Leap District is a special place for Cabernet due to its location in the southeastern part of Napa Valley. The small region is blessed with moderate elevation and coastal influence, as well as the cooling influence from the San Pablo Bay. The cool, warm and sunny weather creates a full bodied and fresh wine, chock full of nuance and power.
“Our portfolio has featured wines from some of Napa’s premier appellations, including Rutherford, Oakville, St. Helena, Mount Veeder and Spring Mountain District, but this is the first wine we’ve ever released from the Stags Leap District. This is an incredible Cabernet Sauvignon that links our first ten years and this new decade in a really special way.” – Brett Vankoski, Wine Director, 90+ Cellars
Lot 10 Cabernet embodies the region’s renowned style and finesse, with a robust body and a depth of bright red stone fruit and silky tannins. While most Stags Leap District Cabs typically retail for $80 or more, we’re beyond excited to offer Lot 10 for around $40. This is a limited release wine, and trust us, you do not want to miss out on this one!
